It is a truism in the HVAC industry that hotter weather in the 90’s, 100’s and beyond is good for business.
It is also true that for more experienced HVAC contractors, the majority of your business comes through the service department for equipment whose maintaintence costs, energy efficiency, expected lifetime, etc. qualify the home for an upgrade. How does the weather drive the demand for service calls? The purpose of this paper is to construct a negative binomial regression model for the count of service calls to a residential HVAC contractor and then investigate the assumptions of the model.
